HAND OVER CEREMONY Speech of the president

Dear Friends,

This year, I will carry forward after our friend John. The burden will not be easy to bear after the excellent work which was accomplished. I would like, on behalf of us all, to thank him, as well as his team, for all the accomplishments. I would also like to thank all the former presidents who made this club what it is today. Because of them, but also because of each and every member of our club, the Rotary Club of Baabda received the Governor's Cup during the last District Conference in Cyprus. Only 9 clubs out of the 124 of the District received this distinction.

I learned a lot from all those who preceded me, each of them having brought a stone to this edifice which must continue to be built indefatigably.

This challenge is not easy, but with the help of my team as well as of you, the members, we shall make it. Let's not have illusions, errors will be committed, but it will be goodwillingly. We should not hesitate to correct, 'vingt fois sur le métier, remettez votre ouvrage ', for the best of our club.

The bar has been raised very high. The theme of Rotary for this year, ' Lead the Way ' should guide our steps, by quoting the President of Rotary International, Bill Boyd: ' We are those who have the qualification and the desire to build a better future. ' We must know how to take the challenge and continue the march ahead while immortalizing Rotary spirit and remembering its basic principles, Community Service and Fellowship.

Two essential ideas will guide our actions for this rotarian year 2006-2007, the Environment and the Youth.

Keywords for these actions are Innovation, Rigour, Efficiency, Professionalism, Simplicity, Opening to others.

Together, we shall succeed and I hope to be able to pass the torch next year to the president elect Gérard Dahan with a club as good as it is today, otherwise better.

Good Rotarian Year
